Adoring Beth Turner

I adore Beth.

I love her curiosity, her drive, her outspokenness, her crazy fearlessness. She is willful and I like that; it will also get her into a lot of trouble.

And she is compassionate and knows how to be a friend. She is touchy-feely, which I adore; it's rare to see that on tv- it's always about sex. She has a sense of humour and can be transported by the moment.

She isn't afraid to make the first move. And she isn't afraid to go where angels fear to tread. She accepts the shocking, and embraces it. She challenges and questions. What's not to like???? She's pretty innocent when it comes to real passion (until she met Mick), which makes her all the more appealing.

That she staked Coraline???? Geeeez, I was so shocked, and so amazed; yes, she would do it, I realised. For someone traumatised so young she is so brave. She is headstrong which gets her into trouble, too. The only gripe I have is that her apartment sucks- it's so bland. Mick gets this Fortress of Style and she gets beige on white on pastel. Yeck!

I adored Ep 1.09, Fleur de Lis, where she just acted out all her trauma and her rage- loved it! All the crazy things she said to Mick- all the jealousy she exhibited. I loved her dark side, just loved it. We all have it and it was wonderful to see an admirable female protagonist portrayed as less than saintly.

She's also good at rescue.

Meanwhile, Coraline, the spider, clings to her long gone ex-hubby like the jilted lover she is. A victim of love. Obsessed and nasty. A woman scorned. A wuss in vampire's clothing. (Don't get me wrong- as a villain she is looking to be awesome- I adore her villainy!).

If Beth were not admirable and likable and interesting, with failings, I would not be watching this show, no matter how hot I think Alex is. Beth is the yang to Mick's yin.
